Manuscript Completion Program The purpose of the Manuscript Completion Program MCP is to facilitate the completion and submission of scholarly manuscripts or other creative works. Word processors are designed to handle large documents like novels. Any good word processor will support the first five requirements. They all support writing, editing, organizing and formatting. If you take part in critique groups in person or online , the group will most likely specify files to be submitted in MS-Word format.

At some point, you will need the assistance of an editor. Every editor I have met insists on receiving manuscripts in MS-Word format. This will record and display their additions, deletions and changes. Plus it allows them to insert comments. Most fellow writers who critique your work will do the same. Writing a novel is a complicated affair. Plots need to be engineered. Settings need to be imagined and detailed.

Characters need to be developed complete with physical features, emotional scars and back stories. And much more…. There is a plethora of software available to assist novelists. Literature and Latte covers the subject along with other topics in their Links for Writers page.

Reedsy provides good information on more than a dozen creative writing tools on their blog. Of course, they rate their product best. Scrivener , by Literature and Latte, gets mentioned a lot as a tool for novel-writing, with features to assist writers in nearly every aspect of composing a long story. In a workshop I recently attended, one participant told the group he had been recruited to teach a class on how to use Scrivener and he was struggling to master the software well enough to teach.

Joined the software site today and within two hours had my 1st ebook lead magnet completed! Very valuable article. I like the easy of Grammarly and the specialization of ProWritingAid. Without fail, they fell down badly the tools, not the pieces.

Suggested substitute words would usually dumb down the piece, or change the intended meanings or nuances, often considerably so. Likewise, the removal of adjectives and even adverbs. Also, that very American, but poor, writing habit of leaving out those words and punctuations which help written English to flow was often evident in the suggested revisions. The whole beauty of the pieces was being taken away, leaving them sterile and bearing little resemblance to literature worth reading for anything other than cold information.

Do any of these work with a Mac? The only question I have these are all wonderful as I type here having free software follow my every word as I type here, although commas etc, versus where does this sentence go what happens to our own thought process of overkill, to please someone else or to please self in the expression of our thoughts to paper as we tell the Story as we see it… just saying..

I looked at a few of these and decided none of them work for my current project, which is an autobiography of a technical project that the author wants to be appealing to his technical industry as well as laypeople as it is a pretty fascinating story.

Any thoughts on this? Helpful review. However, you failed to give adequate attention to moving in and out of MS-Word and Scrivener possibly some other word processors. I used Grammarly and Autocrit. It was almost always a hassle. The real answer is for Microsoft to either buy these folks out, or put some original effort into adding text editing features to their word processing software.
